Not much cooking today. I’m

Not much cooking today. I’m wearing long underwear and loving it. The photo is the first of a series my brother Dan sent me of his first experiments in de-boning fowl. We hope to latch on to the current culinary craze and make turducken for Christmas.
This little bird is so damn cute.

Get out and enjoy the snow if you can.

Scariest POTD ever.

Scariest POTD ever. I’m beardless once more. Hope everyone had a nice holiday.

Once again, I relished the entire Thanksgiving experience. The party for the most part centered in the kitchen, watching Mom and me whip up the double deucetwo twelve pound birds(see inset). We stuffed one with traditional stuffing and the other with an apple walnut variation. Dinner came off without a major hitch and the company combined with such a feast created a perfect day. While taking a breather outside in the quiet twirling snow, the realization of how lucky I am and how thankful I should be struck me and I offered a toast to the great unknown for blessing someone so as unworthy as I. Also, I was drunk.

Yesterday, I had planned to

Yesterday, I had planned to leave New York at 6PM, but after showing the radar map at weather.com to my boss, he gladly allowed me to leave early. I hoped to race a massive storm front to my home town, it from the West, me from the East. While the gray and white pixels on the screen moved out of West Virginia and began to blanket the Pittsburgh region, I hurtled across North Jersey running a rented Ford Focus, all four tiny cylinders whining with the effort. The weather held until about seventy-miles from home. Horizontal snow and tractor trailers created a Star Wars-esque videogame experience that had no reset. Two and half upright tense knuckled hours later brought me to then end of the road where the Ford was able to claw through the half foot of snow into the driveway. Happy to be out of the car and out of New York, inside the warm home, I took this shot of the still raging blizzard.

Despite the warnings of a major snowstorm, I’m headed to that crazy town of Altoona, PA tonight. I’ve decided not to take the holiday off when it comes to this site though, so you all can rest easy. I’m going to try and stake out the mall for some good mullet photos so stay tuned.

Erik is making a student

Erik is making a student film and I volunteered last night to help with the auditions. We had about twenty professional actors do short screen tests, reading a small scene with me. Some were much better than others and one actress in particular stole my heart, but unfortunately she was only acting….
I awoke this morning in a bit of a foul mood, lingered awhile in bed, and then braved the light to retrieve my laundry. While putting it away I discovered the mate to one of my expensive wool hiking socks that I had given up on as permanently orphaned. This reunion instantly reversed my mood and I walked to work elated. If a recovered wool sock can affect your disposition to this degree, either your unhappiness was not that profound or you are indeed crazy.

My friend Joslyn’s shoes. I’m

My friend Joslyn’s shoes. I’m not really into shoes, but I thought these were interesting for their pointy-ness. Also, I’m trying to reduce the number of generic people-in-a-bar photos. Joslyn gathers shoe designs for Victoria’s Secret so she ends up on funded shopping trips to places all over the world. I’m not a big fan of shopping, but I do like to travel so I’m a touch jealous of her job.
I went to a going away party for Kevin and Joy last night. When people move I generally handle it with denial, so I won’t mention much more other than I hope Kevin and Joy have a nice vacation in Seattle and hopefully we can do dinner when they return.

I watched the tail end of Legally Blonde last night before going out. That fact that I would admit something that embarrassing may add validity to the other things I write here. Reese Witherspoon is hot, if you like that type. After the movie they interviewed a bunch of Harvard law students, several of which claimed similarities to Reese. Apparently mirrors don’t work at Ivy League schools.

We celebrated Jeff Martini’s birthday

We celebrated Jeff Martini’s birthday at Daddy’s in Williamsburg. I don’t want to be near sunlight. Tyler says, “I like to call the photo on the lower left of today’s page ‘The Last Thing a Case of Budweiser Ever Sees.'”

These are the two children

These are the two children I got to play with during a rainy weekend in the Poconos at Kevin’s cabin (thanks for the pic, Kevin). These two rugrats entertained themselves all day and behaved better than me. The small one, Helena, followed her older sister, Julia, around, trying to participate in all the same activites, but often content to just watch. Julia made a hobby of rolling her sister over which produced much giggling. Great kids. I also enjoyed getting to know their parents, particularly their mother’s cooking and their father’s taste for red wine. Heidi and Johannes whipped up a dinner of filet mignon and rosemary potatoes that was served with two bottles of Austrian wine from Johannes’ home….
The inset is me removing a tenacious rubber band from Barbie’s hair as a favor to Julia. I’m not enjoying the task or the fact it was being photographed. Kids should only play with toy guns.

    Things to do today:

  • Pay bills
  • Call the super to put a new doorknob on my door. I broke the other one off.
  • Make two sets of spare keys to store at friend’s places. I was locked out.
  • Buy Jeff Martini a drink.
