Today's photo is Dad and I checking out an early father's day gift last week. A cool facial expression? The response to the first time a person stops hearing world when they initially try good noise-reducing headphones. Another cool expression that appears a lot in my pictures? The tolerant smile of someone who has to sit for just one more.

We got to the Big Apple BBQ on Saturday and chowed on some really excellent 'que. We had opted for the Fast Pass. It's a hundred dollars of credit that allows you and a guest into a VIP area behind the booths. Even with the pass, the crowds got totally insane by 1. We were there at open and managed to wolf down three vendors' best offerings.
Here's the plan for next year: Get a group of folks there early (11:00AM) and stake out a blanket in the shade. Disperse teams into the VIP area, each with the goal of getting four orders of food from two different vendors. Gather at the blanket and feast. Drink a few beers and then find some AC by 2, full of tasty, tasty murder.

As you may know, I am an Obama fan. So naturally I am very pleased to see him clinch the nomination. It has even lessened my irrational dislike for Ms. Clinton. In honor of the Democrats finally taking a step forward and making the run for president a two horse race, I've created Baracktacular.com. I'm not sure what do with it yet, but I feel like greatness is possible. Please email your suggestions.

The mlw and I had the good fortune to dog sit Elliott, aka The Wookie, Ben and Holly's fuzzy Norwegian Elk Hound. Some dogs are territorial and will growl when a stranger enters the apartment. Others will nuzzle and lick the burglar hoping to.get an ear scratch while he rifles through your drawers. Elliott is of the latter variety.
He approached the walk like walks were his FAVORITE, but he hadn't thought of them in ages! Pure elation and sniffing, each sidewalk stain containing more of life's answers than the previous. It was a lot of fun.

Gina Carano is a 25 year-old mixed martial arts fighter, trained primarily in Muay Thai boxing, but more importantly, smoking hot. She's like a bad-ass Rachel Weisz. Last night, she remained undefeated while achieving her sixth victory. This fight was the first on network TV as CBS may live to regret. Gina's face came out of the fight unmarred, but her opponent had a shiner that was a little too gory for network TV.
She's 140 pounds, fit, pretty, and appears to be very nice–except when she is punching people to pulp.

Today's shot is a bridesmaid gazing at The Telectroscope. What's a Telectroscope, you ask? Why it's an amazing device that uses a long, lost tunnel from New York to London to allow residents of those cities to wave at one another. It's also too crowded to see on Memorial Day, but I plan to head back one morning this week.
Why is there a bridesmaid there? Well, it appears that many Asian weddings take their photographs on a day other than the wedding, particularly at the Fulton Ferry Landing. Last Sunday, we saw four groups and six stretch limos, each with a couple of stuffed animals on the grill.

We stumbled by this huge mural going up in Dumbo, ironically during the New York Photo Festival. Maybe the artist planned on taking a picture after he was done.

I've had a bad cold (or possibly allergies) for a few weeks, so I decided to quit smoking again. I gathered up all my half packs and tossed them in the trash. Don't worry though, I kept the tattoo lighter.

This weekend was the annual Brooklyn Heights Association House tour. We took the opportunity to wander through the various multi-million dollar town and carriage houses. Two noteworthy sites were the house pictured above that is heavily featured in the new Coen Bros./Clooney joint, Burn After Reading. The other was the Bossart Hotel, shown in the thumbnail shots. It was once the "Waldorf of Brooklyn," but is now a residence for Jehovah's Witnesses. I'm not sure what that means, but it must include lots of dough, because the Italian palace facade of the lobby was well restored.
4 out of the 5 houses had marble-topped wine bars. Most had children's room. My favorite was a brownstone on Grace Court. The mlw loved a restored carriage house in an alley. That one had the only turntable I saw, complete with an original pressing 'London Calling' on it.
Like last year, the volunteers were courteous and friendly. Also like last year, there was a bit of snarky gawking on the part of the people on the tour. A few times somebody would guffaw, "Not how I would decorate!" Money doesn't buy happiness or taste. Not having money increases a need to point out that fact. I wanted to retort to that person, "It doesn't matter how you would decorate, you are poor and on a house tour," but the wife pinched me.
