Gentlemen

My fellas joined me for a trip to Ft. Lauderdale for a bachelor party weekend. We were relatively well-behaved and spent most of the time watching college football or touring the Bass Pro Shop super store connected to the hotel parking lot.

It was an amazing time and I am really grateful to the guys for making my money no good, keeping me well liquored, and almost winning me a wedding band at Dave & Busters.

Fireworks To Welcome Me Home

Someone staged an enormous fireworks display outside my window to welcome me home from Florida (more on that later). The Brooklyn Heights Blog reports it was for a Diwali celebration, the Hindu holiday known as the "Festival of Lights", at the South Street Seaport.

Brooklyn Stained Glass

This was the weekend for Open House New York and the wtb and I used the opportunity to tour St. Ann's church on Montague Street. St. Ann's is a beautiful Episcopalian church built in 1847. The architect Minard Lafever commissioned a complete set of stained glass windows, the first in America, from artist Jay Bolton. The series along the balcony depict the pinnacle moments of Jesus's life, including the miracle at the wedding, turning water into wine. If you click on the smaller image, you can see the blue water magical turning into purple wine as it is poured. I spent the rest of the weekend perfoming my own miracle where I turn wine into pee.

Go DJ Go DJ Go DJ Go!

For an upcoming party I am making a 4 hour mix tape that has to please people of widely varied ages and backgrounds. I'd love to just pack it with good music (ie music I like) but instead I do want to include some crowd pleasers. I am canvassing you, dear reader, for some suggestions. Here's the criteria, I need songs that are classic or instantly catchy, dancable, and not too, too shitty. A little cheese is not necessarily so bad. Here are some in that vein:

I need a lot more so please put some suggestions in the comments. Or tell me why some of these suck…or are AWESOME.

Songs that are currently stuck in my head that I probably won't put on the mix:

Coen Brothers Are In My Hood

The Brooklyn Heights Blog is reporting on what I have been walking by for days: the Coen Brothers are in the neighborhood shooting "Burn After Reading". As you may or may not know, I am a die hard Coen Brothers fan. Having them reform and immortalize the area make me very happy.

Oh yeah, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are around too.

I Don’t Need Anythi-…Wait, I Do Need One Thing

Today's picture was supposed to be a shot of the wtb's and my appliance
stable. The point of the shot was to demonstrate our saturation of appliance and a larger concept that I have too much stuff and I shouldn't buy anymore. However, as you can tell by the corrupt image file, my camera is on the fritz. I need a new one. Suggestions?

WEEKEND RECAP

On Friday I got to see the emergence from the ashes of the beautiful phoenix that was The Coastal Drag. Bringing pure rock to Billysburg was Gold Tooth (website pending).

Speaking of Williamsburg, I hadn't been out there in a while. It's turned into something as terrible and B&T as the East Village. It's an insane place with drunken kids punching walls outside of American Apparel.

Saturday was blissful nap interrupted periodically by college football. L joined me for some local pizza and then I spent some quality time with the PS2.

Sunday, I joined C&T in a rare double-WB weekend for Direct TV and the NFL. The Steelers mistakingly thought they had a bye and instead lost to Arizona.

You know what I didn't do this weekend? Dress up as a furry or a Klingon and bowl.

January Jones

I hate winter, but I love January Jones. She plays the lovely, but domesticated sixties wife on my new favorite show, Mad Men on AMC. Her blue eyes, slim waist, and nightgowns propel her to the pantheon of hot TV housewives that includes June Cleaver and Mrs. Brady. The shows plot also gives her character an undercurrent of craziness, which everyone knows is hot, however unrecommended and dangerous.

Jones has also been in American Wedding, which I have avoided, and a few other projects. More pics can be seen at a great page on a great site Gear Patrol.

Crazy Window Cleaning Guy

This insane man is standing on a ledge, three stories up, without any safety gear, cleaning windows. I’ll post another shot if he falls.

Trump Soho Protest…Um, A Little Late

Trump ProtestersFor some reason a bunch of protesters are yammering across the street from the Trump Soho construction site. The building frame has reached over twelve floors, so it seems a little late to raise a ruckus. Maybe they were busy.
