A Number 1, Please

My Lovely Wife and I recently gave up restaurant food for 30 days. This included everything from fancy joints, to delivery pizza, to deli sandwiches. My goal was to get some blog fodder, like Rob Cochran, to develop some habits that reduce my dependency on eating out all the time, and to save some money. My wife was also looking at the health benefits, because typically everything in a restaurant is slathered in butter and salt. That's why it's soooo good, but also bad for you.

I actually learned to plan more than one meal ahead. I survived without hanging with General Tso. We made exceptions for any free meals from work and for some family emergency travel. Other than that, I was pretty true to the goal. Once, I had to make my boss buy me a BLT so as to be within the limits.

What did I learn? Yes you do save money, feel better, and lose weight by eating in more often. We had some great meals to. The mlw makes an awesome asparagus risotto. On a tight time line I can whip up some Macaroni de la Diablo, recipe to be posted someday. The inconvenience is not as bad as I expected either. The goal now is to use all this knowledge to reduce the amount I eat out. However, this photo shows that on Monday I needed a Big Mac. Sometimes things just have to be.
