It’s a boy!!!

John Wilkinson Conrad was born at 4:04PM today, weighing 6 pounds to my brother Jerry and my sister-in-law Cary. Baby and mother are doing fine. Dad appears not be freaking out. Uncle Sean is over the moon! Hopefully, Wil is going to read this entry someday.
Dear Nephew,

What is it like in the future? Have cellphones, PDAs, MP3 players, and digital cameras all been combined into one device that gets implanted in your head? Are you taller than me by now? Have your uncles and you father taken you fishing? Camping? If not, get on our case.

If you read this when you are 18, I’ll be almost fifty. Here’s some advice from me off the top of my head while I’m still young and thin:

– Live in New York City once in your life, even if it is just for a summer.
– Never hesitate to ask your uncle for a beer or a fiver.
– Respect your mother. Other people will respect you for it.
– Learn to drive a stick early in life.
– She can’t say “yes” if you don’t ask.
– And as my Great (and great) Uncle Charley taught me, always have your passport in order.

Love,
Uncle Sean
