Yesterday, April 1st, I wrote that I was taking a month hiatus to be more diligent at work. When asked for details, I told people that I wanted to focus on my music. This all was, of course, an April Fool’s joke, also known as Malicious Liars Day. Fifty-seven people visited the site yesterday. Seven people were fooled and one person recognized the obvious deception. That means forty-nine people, or 86% didn’t give a shite. Was the joke on you or me?

Today’s pic is a left-over shot from the winter in honor of Spring. A beer to the first person who can identify the fuzzy man in the trees.

After reading this article about the fallacies in the media, and many others by a variety of conservatives and liberals, I’m resolved to be very against the war. It’s an easy opinion to come to living in the ultra-democrat New York City, but for me it required a lot of research and thought. Forget email or online petitions. I could write a program to counterfeit those in a matter of moments so they really are worthless. A better gesture is to send a real physical letter to as many of your representatives as possible. I’ve been looking on the Web for a site to assist with this and that is where I found the site of the day. With respect to author of that site, I feel there could be an anti-war letter generating site that is even easier to use. The user could enter their address and be walked through registering to vote if necessary. The final out put would four letters that highlight the main unarguable points of the anti-war stance, addressed to the users senators, representative, and the President. The letter-generator would have to stick to the main points so it would be palatable to the broad diversity that exists even within the anti-war community. If done in a user friendly fashion, with features such as also creating the envelope text, I think this tool could lead to a decent sized letter writing campaign. It’s not the cost of a 39 cent stamp that creates apathy, but the time involved that prevents busy people with their own problems from making an effort.
I’d like to build this thing, but my Perl is a little weak and I haven’t been able to find representative data service. Does anyone know of an XML feed from congress? Seriously.
