Facebook Lockdown

I know this is an ironic post because I'm writing it on my public personal blog, but here it goes anyway. Facebook is a privacy nightmare. The default settings expose lots of your information (schools, mom's maiden name, DOB, etc) to anyone you happen to friend. If you are like most people, you've probably ended up with a ton of "friends" that are random's from grade school. Or they are someone else pretending to be a random from grade school.

So what should you do? Well, Facebook does not make it easy. Their site benefits from you creating more content (your information) for them for free. However there is a good article on how to get control of your privacy here:

Essentially, you make a few lists to organize all your "Friends" and adjust the setting to only show certain information to people you trust. It's not only a good way to get a proactive handle on your privacy, but it's also a good way to prevent showing those beach photos to coworkers who thought you were "sick."

If you need help setting this us, particularly if you are my mother, let me know. I'm not stoked about you sharing your maiden name with the world after every bank account I've ever signed up for using the same info to reset my passwrd. :-)
