It&#39;s what I call a Cheshire Moon, because I&#39;m convinced Lewis Carroll dreamed up the Cheshire Cat while observing one just like under the influence of opium. I have no research to back that up and I don&#39;t really care.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8230;\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOn a digital photography note, the moon I saw through my naked eye looked infinitely better than today&#39;s pic. It was huge on the horizon and I could perceive several shadowy seas along the sliver.  I used a tripod through a closed window at ISO 400 with a small telephoto lens to get this shot. Ironically, the moon is too bright and it washes itself out at any exposure that reveals the ferry landing.
